Choosing a domain name for my own website was not what I expected to be doing this morning, and I was pleasantly surprised that today we'd be creating our own websites. Within minutes of choosing a name, it had been registered with JoomHosting. More time consuming was choosing a pre-designed template from JoomlArt, that could be modified to suit the look and feel I wanted for my site.

Joomla, the word is thrown around here a lot. At first I was confused, what does it mean? What is it? I learnt that it is a content management system which enables users to create a website from scratch. After learning about how to create content on the platform, today I made my own website. I went from intern to master web developer in one day. Well, not really, but now I have my own website and I am on track to learning the ins and outs of using an open source content management system.

Setting up social networks for engagementSetting up a social media network for a client, sounds fairly simple? Not really, I guess most people would assume that all you need to do is create a Facebook page, a Twitter account and you're good to go. Wrong! Do I possess the ability to create a social media network for a client from the ground up?

If someone has asked me that 5 weeks ago, I would have said yes, oh how naïve I was! Yes I could have done it, but would it have been beneficially sound for the client? Probably not.

campaign monitor

I'll admit it, I am a Pinterest addict. I pin many things from fitness inspiration to movie posters I like.

What I have discovered today are images pinned from Sydney based company, Campaign Monitor. What an awesome discovery, many people have pinned work from Campaign Monitor and more specifically, email campaign templates. The designs that I got to feast my eyes on were inspiring and allowed for me to then have a play around with an email campaign template.

hootesuite team managementI can't believe that I have never come across this amazingly useful social media management tool called HootSuite Dashboard. I run my own website and social media posts but have never knew that it was possible to create, plan and schedule all the social media posts across Twitter and Facebook for a week, month or even a year in advance!

Advanced technology and innovation surrounds us and yet we are not aware of its fully dimension and its potential. I am amazed!

visuallyAs a part of working as an intern here at PB Web Development I've been learning about how to best source content across the web for various clients in different fields and industries. Everything from environmental issues, to content management solutions to fish recipes and how to prepare a tasty meal on a tight budget.

One very interesting source of content I was taught about today was visual.ly, a source of amazing infographics that allow a message to be easily communicated as a picture instead of words. You know what they say, "A picture is worth a thousand words". If that is the case then a picture/diagram with words must be worth more!

instagram logoAfter today's session I don't think I'll appreciate beautiful beach photos again after viewing so many. Except now all I want to do is go on a holiday. Spending the day searching for content for a client on Instagram using the site Webstagram has been extremely engaging.

Especially for me as I have travelled to the specific area in the past and reminisced through the photos I found.

pinterestNot just for wedding obsessives, Pinterest is another social media platform that can be utilised as a gateway to drive traffic towards your website (or your client's). You would be mistaken for thinking that Pinterest is simply a place to collect pictures of weddings in barns, dream homes and mason jar craft projects.

It is actually a dynamic image repository where you can find inspiration for anything including your very next holiday to the South Pacific! I can't say it was hard work pinning pictures of beach paradise all day - although it didn't do much to ward off today's unseasonal chill.

hoot suiteFor personal use twitter can be a spontaneous, entertaining online platform: rant, retweet, roll your eyes at celebrities, be silly and share with your friends and/or followers. But social media engagement is a serious business for any company with an online presence, and to start my internship at PB Web Development I learned how a social media management tool like HootSuite, social media tools for business, can organise your posting timetable.

Dude, hashtags don't work on FacebookPosting over the weekend on Facebook and Twitter seems pretty normal for an individual, but then you spot a post from a brand, what is this all about? They surely don’t sit there and tweet over the weekend, otherwise some people would never leave work. How on earth does this work? HootSuite, social media tools for business, is the answer!

I have previously read articles on scheduling programs but never had experience with using one. Today I was introduced to Hootsuite and I doubt i’ll ever look back. With the ability to schedule posts for a variety of online social media sites, this platform enables users to post content 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
